"Sophisticated" thief taking waitresses tips
by Jim Maurice, WJON.com

WAITE PARK -- A sharp-dressed man has been scamming restaurant workers out of their money.

Waite Park police chief Dave Bentrud says there have been at least three cases reported so far. He says, in each case, the man has walked into a restaurant and has made-up a hard-luck story about losing his wallet and needing to get to a meeting.  He usually makes a reference to being in the auto industry.   And he convinces the workers to give him money, promising to pay them back.

The suspect is described as a white man in his early 30's, about 6' tall, and well built. He has a short blond military-style haircut.

Bentrud says so far he's only targeted restaurants, but all workers should be aware of him.

If you have any information, you should contact the Waite Park police department at 251-3281.
