Police arrest man after early morning assault

ST. CLOUD -- St. Cloud Police have arrested an Illinois man after an assault in downtown St. Cloud early this morning.

Police say they saw a verbal confrontation among a group of men taking place in a parking lot at 6th Avenue North and St. Germain Street West at about 2:15 this morning.

Police say 24-year-old Demetrius Andrews ran up to a Waite Park man and punched him in the face then fled the scene.

Police caught up with Andrews and arrested him on suspicion of 3rd degree assault.

The 27-year-old victim had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.
