City Council approves Heritage Park for skate plaza
by Lee Voss, WJON.com

ST. CLOUD -- After several years in the works, St. Cloud is finally getting a Skate Plaza.

City Council members voted 5-to-2 in favor of building it at Heritage Park.

About a dozen people testified both for and against putting the park there. But, in the end, council members like Bob Johnson said it was their best option.

The St. Cloud Parks Department looked at about 10 parks but in the end recommended Heritage Park because it is in the city's core, it has existing bathrooms, parking and is along the bus route.

The next step will be to hire an architect to help design the $500,000 skate park.

It will be paid for using park improvement funds, Municipal State Aid and private contributions.
