Banaian announces run against Haws

by Terry Lee, WJON.com

ST. CLOUD -- A well known St. Cloud State University Economics Professor is announcing his challenge against St. Cloud Representative Larry Haws.

Local economist King Banaian announced Tuesday morning he will be seeking the Republican nomination to run against Haws for Minnesota House Representative District 15-B.

Banaian is a regular radio commentator on local economic issues.

Banaian's main focus will be the budget deficit, and reducing government spending.  Banaian took aim at Democrat Larry Haws' voting record, saying it doesn't represent the interests of central Minnesota.

He also expressed his disappointment at Haws' vote on the tax bill last legislative session.

Banaian says for too long the state is treating the taxpayers like an ATM.

Banaian has been a Professor at St. Cloud State University for more than 25 years.
