SAUK RAPIDS -- If Sauk Rapids sells their city hall, that could bring new development, along with increasing the city's tax revenue.
City Administrator Ross Olson, and city staff, will answer many questions about the pros and cons of selling city hall for $3.75 million, during a public meeting this evening (Monday).
According to the County Tax Assessor the site could bring in just over $64,000 a year in tax revenue based plans for a new 15,000 sq/ft building. Semper Development has been working with the city to rent out the location for a new Walgreens location with a drive thru.
The city hall is sitting on what many considers valuable retail land because it's on a 100% corner. Olson says the redeveloped site could assist in bringing other businesses to the Sauk Rapids downtown.
The city estimates it would cost $5.6 million to build a new city hall and police station.
The city would need to levy for the difference between the cost of the new building, and the sale price.
Olson says the city would be getting a nearly $6 million building for a levy of around $1.2 million.
Sauk Rapids residents can get answers to questions about the potential sale of Sauk Rapids City Hall tonight (Monday) at 5:00 p.m. at city hall.
