ST. CLOUD -- Students and staff from St. Cloud State are digging for clues from our earliest settlers.

The site where the University now sits used to be called Lower Town, and was first established around 1853.

They're conducting an archaeological dig there, and so far they've come-up with some pretty interesting treasures.

Spokeswoman Lisa Schauer says they've  found square nails, skeleton keys, a leather button, and possibly the foundation to one of the first houses in town.

Most of those settlers moved away from Lower Town by the mid 1860s, and the College was then established on that site in 1868.

The dig will continue into next week, and you're able to take a public tour.  For more information, call (320) 308-2159.  Give them your name, phone number, and the number of people attending.
