Utility work on Hwy 23 bridge project adds congestion to detour
by Lee Voss, WJON.com

ST. CLOUD -- Work on moving the natural gas line underneath the DeSoto Bridge is causing some headaches for motorists who use the East St. Germain detour.

St. Cloud City Engineer Steve Gaetz says the work has forced the closure of Wilson Avenue and re-routed traffic to Lincoln Avenue Southeast. He says that -- along with the railroad crossing on East St. Germain -- is causing additional traffic delays.

But, Gaetz says the traffic signals are properly timed and traffic is moving about as well as can be expected.  He says rush hour traffic is too heavy for the corridor, but outside of those times, cars move through the detour fairly well.

Gaetz says once the gas line work is done, it should help improve traffic flow along that corridor.
