Waite Avenue/44th Avenue extension project close to starting
by Jim Maurice, WJON.com

ST. CLOUD -- The plan to extend 44th Avenue/Waite Avenue between St. Cloud and Waite Park should move ahead tonight (Monday).

The St. Cloud city council is expect to approve the construction contract with R. L. Larson Excavating.

St. Cloud City Engineer Steve Gaetz says the $7.5 million project will build a new road between 3rd Street North in Waite Park and Veteran's Drive in St. Cloud.

It's being paid for by the cities of St. Cloud and Waite Park, with the help of  some Federal money.

If the city council approves the contract tonight, construction will begin next month -- and it's expected to be completed by the fall of next year.

This project was originally scheduled to start already last year, but it got delayed when the city had to buy land from the V-A for some right-of-way work.
