Prelim work starting on West Metro Corridor project
by Jim Maurice, WJON.com

ST. CLOUD -- Some preliminary work will done over the next few weeks on a road construction project known as the "West Metro Corridor".

The first phase of the project will include the re-alignment of Stearns County Roads 134 and 138, a new bridge over the Sauk River, and the expansion of Veteran's Drive to six-lanes.

St. Cloud City Engineer Steve Gaetz says they're going to start contacting the homeowners in that area that will be affected by the project.

Gaetz says a number of homes will have to be taken in order to make way for the road.   Actual construction is scheduled to start next year.

The project is a joint effort between the city of St. Cloud and Stearns County.
