Popular "River Road" could get a faster speed limit
by Jim Maurice, WJON.com

LeSauk Township -- Transportation officials are looking at raising the speed limit on Stearns County Road 1.

The section of road -- also known as the "River Road"-- is being looked-at from the new Sauk Rapids Bridge to Highway 15.   The current speed limit is 30 miles-an-hour.

Stearns County Highway Engineer Mitch Anderson says the county doesn't have the authority to raise the speed limit themselves, so they've asked MnDOT to do a study.

The study will include previous safety issues, the width of the road, and how much development there is along the road.

Anderson says it's common to re-look at a road's speed limit after a major improvement project like the new Sauk Rapids Bridge and the extra lanes that were added in that area.

The study could take up to three months to complete.

MnDOT just recently recommended the part of 9th Avenue that connects to County Road 1 be increased to 40 miles-an-hour.
