EDEN PRAIRIE -- The Minnesota Vikings traded up to take quarterback John David Booty of USC in the fifth round of the NFL draft.
The Vikings switched positions with Green Bay and gave the Packers their seventh-round pick to move up and get Booty, who comes from a quarterback-friendly West Coast offense.
Booty says he expected to be picked in the second or the third round. He'll likely compete with Brooks Bollinger for the third spot behind starter Tarvaris Jackson and backup Gus Frerotte.
The Vikings selected Florida State defensive tackle Letroy Guion (GUY'-on) with their second fifth-round pick.
They closed out the second day of the draft by taking Notre Dame center John Sullivan and Jackson State receiver Jaymar Johnson in the sixth round.
