Defending champ Cristie Kerr ready for upcoming Women's Open
by The Associated Press

EDINA, Minn. -- The U.S. Women's Open is a little more than a month away, and defending champion Cristie Kerr is eager to defend her title.

Kerr won the Open last year at the Pine Needles course in North Carolina. She was in the Twin Cities for a media event at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, where the 63rd Women's Open will be held the last week in June.

It's considered a difficult course; the total length for the Open will be more than 6,700 yards, and there will be five par-five holes.

Kerr will have her hands full trying to repeat: Mexican sensation Lorena Ochoa is on a roll, and this will be also be Swedish star Annika Sorenstam's final Open.

But Kerr says she thinks her game might peaking at the right time, just like last summer.
