Indianapolis awarded 2012 Super Bowl; Vikes want one too
by The Associated Press
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Colts have been awarded the 2012 Super Bowl. It'll be the fourth time a cold-weather city will host the NFL's championship. And the Minnesota Vikings hope they can be the next one some day.
Indianapolis beat out Houston and Arizona for the 2012 game.
Of the 42 Super Bowls, the three played indoors in cold-weather cities were in 1982 and 2006 in Detroit and 1992 in Minneapolis. Indianapolis also plays indoors, and has a new stadium on the way.
Vikings vice president Lester Bagley says it's encouraging that a team in a northern climate like Indianapolis can get both a new stadium and a Super Bowl.
The owners meetings in Atlanta were dominated by labor news. The owners plan to end their agreement with the players' union two years early, in 2011.
