Some agreement reached on RNC protest
by The Associated Press

ST. PAUL -- A federal court hearing likely will be delayed over a protest route for the 2008 Republican National Convention.

Representatives of the city of St. Paul and a protest group say they've reached a verbal agreement to postpone Friday's hearing.

The hearing was to be held before U.S. District Judge Joan Ericksen.

The federal lawsuit was originally filed because protesters were frustrated in their ability to get approval for a specific protest route in St. Paul. A route was announced this week, but protesters plan to appeal that march permit.

Both sides say they're working on an agreement that would cover details of the march, such as fees and portable toilets.

The Republican National Convention will be held at Xcel Energy Center from Sept. 1-4.
