Twin Cities students show off electric motorcycle
by The Associated Press

MENDOTA HEIGHTS -- A group of Twin Cities teens at St. Thomas Academy is showing off a new electric motorcycle.

The high school's experimental vehicle team used a $10,000 grant to develop the motorcycle, which can travel up to 60 mph for more than 40 miles before needing to be recharged.

The vehicle can be recharged by an on-board 110-volt charger.

The students also say the motorcycle is safer because it can keep the driver inside the vehicle in a collision.

The InvenTeams grant from the Lemelson MIT program asked students to identify a real-world problem and invent a practical solution.

The students plan to show off the motorcycle Saturday morning at the school, which is located in Mendota Heights.
