Joshua Wimmer
Please tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.
My name is Joshua Wimmer and I grew up in St. Cloud and have lived in this area for most of my life. My wife and I moved to St. Joseph in order to raise our daughter in a safe, small community. I graduated from Saint Cloud State University with a Bachelors of Science in secondary education. Currently, I am employed at the Wright Learning Center in Buffalo where I teach American Government, On-the-Job-Training and Economics courses. My passion and interest has always been for government because I feel that it is my civic duty to run for office.
What experience do you have that prepares you for public office?
While attending Saint Cloud State University, I took quite a few classes that involved government and I have always had a passion to serve. During my 3 years of teaching, I have learned the importance of excellent time management and the ability to communicate effectively. I had the opportunity to meet numerous individuals and have had the opportunity to listen to their ideas. This will definitely help me as a city council member who is there to serve the people in St. Joseph. I also have experience as an Assistant Manager for Wal-Mart, where I learned the importance of budgeting and working as a team player.
Why have you decided to run for office?
One of the reasons why I am running for City Council in St. Joseph is because I feel that some of the current members are not listening to the citizens in the community. Another reason I am running is because I have always had an interest in government and I want to help the city of St. Joseph grow positively.
Top three issues you would tackle if elected.
If I am elected, one of my top priorities will be the revitalization of downtown St. Joseph. I think that it is important to help find ways that will improve the city positively. Another priority will be the transportation issues, including Field Street. It is important to plan for the future growth by providing adequate roadways. Another issue that I will tackle will be helping the city grow through its comprehensive plan. I want the city to continue growing for both residents and commercial businesses.
