Steve Olson

Please tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.
I was raised in Thief River Falls, MN, for a number of years and then my family relocated to Williston, ND, where I graduated high school.  I then attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND.  I have been married for 21 years to my wife, Tana, and we have a 12-year-old daughter, Kylee, who attends Kennedy Community School.

My family and I recently re-located to St. Joseph, after living in Atlanta for 11 years.  We have lived in St Joseph for 4½ years now and love the community.

I am employed as a Sales Representative for Hanson Structural Precast Midwest in Maple Grove.

Why you decided to run for this office.
The following are the main reasons I have chosen to run for City Council:

Most importantly, I believe that we need to support bringing new business and new residents to the community of St Joseph to increase our tax base. This would in turn allow increased spending for community amenities and create jobs.

Secondly, during difficult economic times, we need to ensure that the City's money is spent wisely. Having worked on federal, state and local government projects with my employment, I believe I have the necessary experience and knowledge to provide sound input.

Finally, we need to ensure that we provide a safe and healthy environment in our community, which is why I strongly support the idea of enriching our parks.
